Abstract

Sloanea chocoana, a new species of subgenus Sloanea section Brevispicae, is described and illustrated. The new taxon is close to S. faginea, but differs by the number of buds on branch apices, stipular shape, petiolar surface, inflorescence length and position, stylar branching, and fruit peduncle and spines. S. chocoensis resembles S. tuerckheimii, but can be easily distinguished by the morphology of stipules and fruit spines.
