Abstract

An update of the “Catalogue of the vascular plants of the Southern Cone” of South America (Argentina, southern Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay) is here presented, six years after the publication of the first modified treatment. A summary of all Lycophyta, Monilophyta, Gimnospermae, and Angiospermae (Monocotyledoneae and Dictotyledoneae), up to May 2025, is presented. This checklist includes nowadays 290 families, 2869 genera, and 18949 species. It is noteworthy that about 40% of the species present in the Southern Cone are endemic to this area. Tables, and a map, sumarizing the floristic information for the Southern Cone and for each country are included, distinguishing by families, genera, and species; also, a comparison with the original version of the catalogue is conducted; endemic families and genera are specified, as well as the introduced ones; the floristic relationships between the involved countries are evaluated. In addition, nomenclatural novelties are included, together with an analysis of the distribution of native, including endemics, species of Argentina and its presence in different ecoregions or biogeographical provinces of the country. Finally, an appendix is provided with the new version of the catalogue.
