Abstract

Two species of Zygnemataceae, Spirogyra nyctigama and Zygnema subcylindricum, are recorded, described and illustrated for the first time for the American continent. A third species, Z. synadelphum, is first reported from South America, being this the southernmost record of this species in the western hemisphere. The study was carried out in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
