Abstract

A revision of the Argentine species of the pantropical genus Desmodium is presented, based on the analysis of exomorphological characters; a total of 21 species grow in Argentina. Two species are cited for the first time for Argentina, D. adscendens and D. distortum, and two synonyms are proposed, D.
longiarticulatum, under D. bridgesii, and D. dutrae, under D. polygaloides. The geographic distribution of each species and some ecological characteristics are also given. The first record of the chromosome count of D. hassleri, 2n = 22 is presented.
