Abstract

The genus Marattia Sw., belonging to the primitive fern family Marattiaceae, was found for the first time in Argentina, in the northeastern part of the Province of Misiones. The specimen, and similar collections from adjacent states in Brazil, were identified as Marattia laevis Sm. However, these specimens exhibit some morphological differences, especially in the synangia, from collections of this species elsewhere in tropical America.
