Abstract

Festuca rigescens in known from the flora of Peru and Bolivia, but in this contribution we extend its geographical distribution to Chile and Argentina. We recircunscribe the specific limits of Festuca nardifolia, usually confused with the previous species, and we exclude it from Chile. We present illustrations and detailed descriptions of the morphology and anatomy of both species and a taxonomic key to discriminate between morphologically related species from Chile and Argentina. We designate lectotypes for F. deserticola and F. paupera, and new synonyms for F. rigescensFestuca deserticola, F. paupera, F. petersonii, and F. saltana.
