This paper confirms that the geographic range of Lygodium venustum includes north eastern Argentina, from the recent collection of specimens in the Provincial Park Moconá, Province of Misiones, and by the identification of herbarium material corroborating an ancient dubious citation of this species. Thisrecord represents the austral limit of the distribution of the species. Diagnostic characters are described and illustrated, and an identification key is provided, as well as reference material of Lygodium species from the Southern Cone of America. Lygodium venustum, L. pohlianum and L. palmatilobum are lectotypified
and the last one is synonymized under Lygodium venustum. Lygodium hastatum, L. palmatilobatum and L. potentilloides are invalid names.
